With crusty bread, beetroot and red cabbage. Choose from one, two or all three flavours.

THE SINGLE BOWL/6.50

Pile up a bowl of Scouse* and top it off with beetroot and red cabbage. Includes bread and butter.

* A pot of tea of neighbourhood filter coffee is included with the Scouse.

Traditional Mutton, Liver bird (when we can’t catch Liver birds, we use chicken) and a Blind Scouse (Vegan)

History

Scouse is a type of stew particularly associated with Liverpool.

The word comes from Lob-scouse, a meal commonly eaten by sailors throughout northern Europe, which became popular in seaports such as Liverpool.

The first known use of the term Lob-scouse is dated 1706. The root of the word is unknown, but it has been suggested that the dish is almost certainly of Baltic origin.

A delicious selection of Liverpool flavours, including Scouse Balls, Pea-wack Puffs, Liverpool Judy, Wet Nelly, and of course freshly mined jam butties from Knotty Ash.

Our Story

I can remember the terraced streets, I can remember the back kitchen with the big Belfast sink. I can remember my grandparents cooking in there, and I can remember the food. I can remember the Scouse and the Peawack. There always seemed to be something bubbling away on the stove.

It felt familiar and comfortable and safe. It’s just what I expected when I went there. If there hadn’t been food on the stove, it wouldn’t have been right. There was always something cooking away. It was always good hearty food. It was just warming and familiar. It was good and that’s what I want to re-create here.
